Introduction

Welcome to MULTIFLO, a program that will assist the production or reservoir engineer to predict tubing and pipeline hydraulics and temperature with accuracy and speed. The main distinction between this package and many other packages is that it simulates transient well behaviour during start up, steady state and shut down. This allows the engineer to derive more useful information about formation parameters and to determine, if the need for artificial lift methods arises.

Features

MULTIFLO has a PVT section which can generate fluid properties using standard correlations and allows their modification for a better fit to measured lab data.

MULTIFLO can be used to model reservoir inflow performance (IPR) and optimise completion design.

MULTIFLO can be used to accurately predict both pressure and temperature profiles in producing wells and along surface flow lines.

MULTIFLO sensitivities easily allow an engineer to model and optimise tubing and surface flow line performance.

MULTIFLO can be used to establish transient well behaviour and hereby establish accurate reservoir pressures. MULTIFLO can be used to accurately predict solids lift behaviour.

MULTIFLO can be used to generate vertical lift performance curves (VLP) for use in simulators using multiphase flow correlations which have been modified to match with measured field data.

Transient modelling

One of the main differentiators of the tool is its transient modelling capabilities. The Codeon software uses PVT code, standard inflow performance relationships, multiphase flow models and special code for liquid and gas segregation calculations to model

  • shut-in and start up conditions under various well conditions (Lazywell behaviour and dynamic start up behaviour)
  • maximum shut in pressures for well design/ integrity purposes
  • reservoir pressures and current PI values from shut-in well head pressures and steady state flowing conditions
  • steady state, shut-in, start-up and transient flowing conditions (that effect scale deposition, solids lift, erosion and corrosion).
  • liquid loading in gas wells.
  • unloading to quantify the amount of gas, diesel (future option) and nitrogen required to unload a well.
  • unloading conditions for ESPs, gas lift and jet pumps.
  • fluid gradients using sonic metered liquid levels.
The model results can be tuned to real data including wellhead and bottom hole pressures measured during steady state production, shut-in and start-up. This can be done by using elevation and frictional gradient correction factors, to tune the elevational head and frictional pressure loss components for steady state, shut-in and start-up calculations. Apart from bottom-hole pressure and wellhead pressure data, gas-liquid levels measured by echo-meters may also be used for these calculations.
